WTF? I agree that a 50mm prime lens should be in everyone's bag, but not for those reasons. 50mm is too short for portraits, meaning you have to get too close which makes noses look big because of perspective distortion. It's OK for group photos, but a 35mm is even better, especially with an APS-C size sensor like the 60D has. If you're going for portraits and group photos, get a 35mm and a 105mm. You should get a fast 50mm lens because it's great for low light, and they often have very low distortion, and they're cheap.
