At the beginning of the episode they talk about some other race's ship going to shit and crashing and right before that they escape by escape pods but when the escape pods flew to the Enterprise they banged it up, I guess they couldn't control them well. That's what I got from it anyway. Not one of my favorite episodes. I like Trip but was never entertained by his lust for self sacrifice.
Anyway the bit about tell you about it later was meant like "you've had enough action for today, I'll give you the bad news about having to share the ship with 20 something weird aliens tomorrow".
