Hi,
I've been having a lot of bother tweaking Star Wars to run correctly - so thought I would share what I had learnt and hope to get a few more pointers....
I am running Mame 0.147u4on a Samsung Series 9 laptop - so i5 with 4GB memory.
The default settings for Star Wars were awful - with the sound tearing / stuttering really badly.
I have searched various posts which all offer conflicting advice, but I found two ways to finally stop the sound issue.
Setting 1 ---------
Display - Throttle ON Video Mode - Direct Draw Direct Draw Hardware Stretch - ON Frame Skipping - Automatic Everything else in Dispay/Advanced switched off.
Pros - everything runs smoothly and sound is perfect Cons - the graphics are not very crisp - a little blurry.
Setting 2 ---------
Display - Throttle ON Video Mode - Direct 3D Direct 3D - Use Bilinear Filtering - ON Version 8 Frame Skipping - Automatic Everything else in Dispay/Advanced switched off.
Pros - graphics nice and sharp. No sound issues. Cons - when I select the game the following warning is displayed: Unable to Initialize Direct3D.
If I select Version 9 along with Bilinear Filtering, I don't get the warning message but the sound still has issues - you notice it when the death star explodes - the music gets all mixed up.
So.... anyone else has similar issues - if so any further suggestions/settings?
The best setting I have found is my setting 2 - but you get that annoying warning message (despite which the game runs really well). Any idea how to stop that warning message coming up?
Thanks...
Jim
