MAME4All is based on a version of MAME from 2000. Yes, 13 years ago. Understandably all of us here work on current MAME and so we have no idea what's going on there anymore.
You might try MAME4Droid Reloaded instead, which is based on a 2010 version of MAME and is therefore probably a lot more reliable. It requires a lot more CPU power (it'll never run well on crippled devices like the Raspberry Pi or GCW-Zero), but a Nexus 7 or Ouya will run most 8 and 16 bit games fine, and a Nexus 10 or Nvidia Shield should run it spectacularly.
