Art is subjective. Amadeus's work wasn't really appreciated by his peers and his music at the time was controversial and not really understood.
What is "silly" to you is seen as legitimate art in certain circles. Many of these clothing designers are seen as "avant garde artists" much in the same way that Pablo Picasso, Buckminster Fuller (known for the geodesic dome), Coltrane, or I guess more modern...Banksy are/were in their respective artistic circles.
Now...is this fashion art something I particularly enjoy? Nope...but then again the art isn't FOR ME...it's aimed at those who already have a foundation in fashion to look at and critique as art.
