I don't have a tablet yet but if I buy one, I will buy the Ipad Mini 2, it should be released in March.

It has retina display and A6 processor (quad-core).

I've seen a couple of video running Mame4Ios and IFba and they run pretty well, and they use pretty recent version of mame too... Demon Front is running perfect on an Ipad 1.
