I had the rubber on the mouse wheel to start to come loose. The screws on that thing were a smaller sized hex-star shaped screw. So getting inside wasn't an option.
Finally I took a scalpel and cut that rubber part off. No more dragging! It doesn't have the same 'grip' as it did when it was new, but moving the scroll wheel is no longer a problem.
