> Due to consumption of fast foods, not snack foods.
Not really. Fast food implies eating out. Most 'food' is pre processed foods on the shelves. It is the carbs that get you. That mostly comes from grain sugar, corn syrup and corn/grains. Those things are just about everywhere. Saw one package of candy that was trying to pawn itself off as 'healthy' by saying it was made out of 'real fruit'. The first 6 ingredients were some sort of sugar. Even the 'fruit' part was apple which is high in sugar.
Many foods if you look at them are just really 'convenience foods' in disguise. They have to add sugar to them because most of them have a horid taste without it. If you look at most foods if it has a high carb count you can almost guarantee it has a good amount of some sort of sugar in it. I have even seen it 'disguised' as sucrose.
Take for example tomato sauce. Lets use prego... http://www.campbellfoodservice.com/details.aspx?code=203 Sugar in there. About 12-13g per half cup to be exact. Tommato sauce does not need sugar! Yet they add it in to give it a sweet taste because they have blanched out the tomatoes.
I was doing a adkins sort of diet a few years ago and it was a real eye opener on how everything we eat is covered in some sort of sugar.
