Video aspect ratio. Which one to choose ?

I haven't played MAME for so long that I forgot which option show the correct screen aspect ratio.
on video options (while running a 4:3 game), should I use:

- Sarndard (4:3)
or
- Pixel Aspect (??:??)

which one gives the corrected aspect ratio ? (like it used to appear in CRT monitors).

my mame.ini setting "aspect" is set to "auto"
