Well, the reason I moved from TV (and cable) to Internet is because ads got to the point of being really intrusive. Not only between 5-10 minute pauses for commercials, but also right into the programs I was watching.
Those who get income ONLY from ads is because they found it profitable. Excuse me if I don't shed a tear to lend them $0.01 for every 5 annoying seconds of things I won't buy nor I didn't request to be tracked for.
I'm a consumer, not a product. Watching ads so they get income makes you a product lured by a targeted audience production. Supporting them in a "free" manner (watching ads) so they keep producing is OK, but that's a personal choice given they're providing through something public.
