DU Update: Rare 80s gambling bits and CPS2 fits
08/27/12 09:44 PM

William Smith donated a couple of boards. One is a Nova Games licensed version of Quarter Horse (laserdisc game). Most of the roms match the Pioneer set in mame but this board has different rom labels, pcb layout, and an extra rom which is either bad or a weird data pattern that the game needs for some reason.

He also sent an old poker game that is an undumped set of...Hi Lo Joker Poker or similar, I'm not really sure yet. Looks like norautp.c hardware.

Also Brian dumped a newer version of New Fantasia and Kevin Eshbach dumped the pals from Bosconian's video board.

I need to get to the bottom of what exactly is going on with the single board CPS2 game versions. There doesn't seem to be much to go on on the web beyond really poor quality pictures and guesswork. The boards had their main program code programmed into a flash rom surface mounted onto a simm card. Hardly anyone can dump them and everyone has just assumed the program is an exact match to the normal eprom versions*. So I need to dump one to check. If you have one of these boards you could lend me send me a message. Otherwise I'm going to buy one and could use some donations to help out. The data lifetime expectancy on these chips is most likely around 10 years so it's already sudden death time for them all. If it turns out the data is the same then we may be able to create the dumps for a number of the boards by combining eprom images but without proof on some of the boards, definitely not.

*Do you know something different? Know someone who has dumped one? Contact me please.
