I already looked at this issue when I tried to create a toolbar with alpha transparencies. Looks like it's a Windows API limitation/bug and a different approach should be taken. Now I'm away from home for a small holiday so I don't want to think to MAME/MAMEUI/MAMEUIFX...
Though it's on my to-do list for the near future.
If I may ask, why don't you design a fantastic FX splash screen for me?

(24 BPP bitmap without transparencies due to the bug mentioned above....)
