In case there isn't one, or it's bombed up or whatever. Serious flap action, note the low and slow approach... Practically skimming the ground by the time he hits the tarmack. Same flaps are used for slow flight for airborne jumps. Awesome all the same! For take off He'd still need to stay low off the runway skimming the ground for awhile, taking advantage of the extra push off the ground below to stay airborne until there's enough lift to gain altitude.
