Absolutely. you will go much faster with a core2duo
I have an E8500 in my home and office PC that have been great for many years. It does need to be overclocked to make seattle games run smoothly.

However, that chip was finally eclipsed by the i7-2600

Seattle Games now run smoothly without overclocking.
If you can afford it, you owe to yourself to get this chip or faster.

Also, go Windows7 64bit.
It's time to move on.

Finally SSD drives. Mame launches much faster from an SSD.
Of course storage room is a big problem.
