It's because the sentence starts mixing in French at "ensure," it throws off the rhythm.

At that that point it flips back and forth between pre-900 Old English and "modern" words that came through French: "ensure... complete anonymity... auditor". "Anonymity" happens to be the most modern word in the sentence, a concept we seem to have not needed until about the 19th century.
