If save state support was a requirement, I would probably stick to the current "single" console emulators out there - pSX, Nestopia etc. Save states are relatively rare in MAME, and not many drivers have them hooked up (although, every driver does have a rudimentary save state feature which may or may not work depending on the game, and could lead to glitches or even the driver and/or crashing). The PlayStation driver is still a work-in-progress at this stage so "Your Mileage May Vary".
