Ok - So I ended up with the nice machine which currently is just a very expensive ashtray and cupholder. The issue when I acquired the machine was a bad hard drive. I have since (with much thanks to smittdogg)reloaded the an image of the game to a new hard drive. The game now boots up and starts - but it freezes after about 20 - 30 seconds. I talked with the people at Namco tech support (super cool guy named Joe) and he told me that I would need a "virgin I/O controller" - because the hard drive information of the original drive is programmed into the I/O controller. Joe suggested I get the i/o controller from the guy who sent me the original image - and he feels it would work then... Sadly - a new "virgin" I/O controller is 200 bucks with a 700 dollar refundable deposit (I know insane) - sooo - Im trying to work around this. I know very little about programming but have no problem taking this machine apart and putting it back together. My question for the forum is this: Can anyone think of any work around to get this going? I have been trying to figure out how to change the serial number on the new hard drive to that of the old one in hopes that is the issue. However, when I put the ide hard drive into an external case and plug it into my machine windows will not see the linux drive as a letter - therefor the serial number changer I am trying to use does not see the drive to change the serial. Although the original drive is dead I have managed to get the serial out of it - and it is recognized but shows up as 0 MB of 0MB and all imaging programs fail to read it.
Please help me out... While I do appreciate having a nice pair of ashtrays and 2 solid cupholders I would like to bowl. Please advise Thanks guys - CHRIS from California.
