Heck, it still works. In fact, most of the air, I expect, is not propelled directly by the little turbine (or are we calling them "turbans" now?), but pulled through the hoop by the reduced pressure (pushed through by normal pressure, yes) caused by the air that is pushed by the blades.
The only really "bladeless" air circulator I've ever seen would be the "ionic" things. Most of those just didn't do anything, and the ones that may have were just as expensive as this fan.
