It would be an interesting court case - trying to do you for piracy when you own the item.
Has anyone *ever* been prosecuted and charged / fined when they actually own the original ? In the last 20+ years, I never heard or read any articles that claim this.
Ahhh, I can just imagine the scene in court now:
Judge: Now, you are here because you have pirated XYZ.
Defendant: No, I own the original.
Judge: What ?
Defendant: That's right, I own the original, purchased it in my local shop, here's the original receipt, my credit card statement (to prove the receipt is mine), and the original item in it's case.
Judge: What ?
Prosecutor: Errr, that's right Judge. He does own the original. But, we still caught him downloading a pirate copy ?
Judge: What ? He owns the original and you are trying to prosecute him for piracy ???
Prosecutor: Errr, that's right Judge.
Can't imagine the judge taking too kindly to this waste of court time.
Stupid laws should be stood up to. Anyone bending over for this stupid nonsense deserves to be shafted.
Would I test it out in a court if ever push came to shove ? Hell yeah !
Probably get flamed for saying the above ... Oh well, flame on patsies.
