After my problems, I went with a Logitech M705 back at the end of September. USB wireless, tiny receiver. Slightly on the not large side. Not ambidextrous. Has back/forward buttons for the thumb. Has additional "hidden" button under the thumb. Wheel has a button to switch between click and flywheel scrolling. Has left/right scroll and M3 click functionality on the wheel. Batteries are lasting quite a while, the app claims I have 92 days/75% battery remaining right now.
So after six months, I think the wheel is spinning a bit slower, but the mouse is still working quite well in games, no missing/extra click issues yet. When I engage in click-fest activities, I still switch over to tapping on a touchpad, to preserve the mouse mechanics.
