Oh wow! They used magnetic tape back then! ;-)

Now no one even uses tape backup cartridges anymore. Not with very cheap flash memory (at last count from the local Big Lots it's $10 for an 8GB flash drive...and they can handle TrueCrypt crypto) being available.

About the closet thing i got to for mass-storage "backup" was the PD-ROM SCSI optical drive and LS-120 IDE drive in my old computer. No USB on that thang. Though I do have an external LS-120 drive for my main desktop upstairs that still works like a champ.

I'd LOVE to find a new 5.25" drive or 5.25"/3.5" combo for my main desktop system. The problem is that I run dual optical drives. But I still use retro hardware and software. That's why the downstairs computer is still in operation. ;-)

But I never did get into tape backup. Maybe I'm glad I missed out on that. Because, to me at least, there was nothing like being able to copy files to rewritable optical PD and not needing backup software to do it and just use what is with DOS to do it all. Well, unless you count PKZIP or ARJ as backup software. ;-)

I love that old system! It may seem obsolete by today's standards but for data recovery and archiving it is a killer tool! :-)

I need to play Duke Nukem 3D again on it in all its SVGA/SB-AWE64 glory via the authentic Gravis 4-button gamepad! It rules!

And Nesticle? On DOS? Oh yeah!
