...or you can simply start creative mode and see everything in less than 15 minutes, The End included. Sounds like cheating I know, but it gets your curiosity out quickly and then move on.

That's the greatest downside. Everyone needs to either start a new world or generate new chunks by exploring far away every time there are new blocks. If we also count the unused textures plus the creative mode only block from v1.2, who knows what newer stuff will come in v1.3. Rinse and repeat.
