Ha! That was like the second or third product I worked on as a QA engineer. It was done totally in-house, but yeah, it had its share of problems. It was one of the few things we've done totally from scratch that didn't share code with any of our other products, and the team that worked on it was smart and enthusiastic, but fairly inexperienced. It got better with patches and in later versions, but getting that first version out the door was a painful experience, as I recall.
