Hey, Project64 is the one with the stupid pages of settings where you have to choose a plugin that can deal with your game, then configure it properly before it'll do the right thing. MESS either runs or it doesn't, and has roughly the same options as MAME.

You might get decent performance in graphically simpler games, but you'd want a quad-core i7 to play the more complex games at a decent speed, and even then something like Pokémon Snap will still only run at half speed. Oh, and I haven't actually got ROMs for the things that Project64 has no chance of playing, so I don't know how well they run in MESS - you could ask on the MESS forum.
