> I'm old now, so moshing seems completely ridiculous, but I jumped in a pit or two back in my salad days.
My mosh pit experience was a Bush concert at Sunken Gardens Theater in San Antonio 23 September '95, which I THINK were the early days of mosh pits, and when Bush was exploding on the alternative rock scene. Started out just a mad massive jumble of dudes doing the usual shoulder colliding fun... until they played the last note of the last set and the concert was over. I don't know what happened, but the pit just erupted into actual real violence, with full blown fists to the face and kicks and everything. I ran out to the grass where the girls were catching the show from, and the violence had spread out as far as that... we all grabbed hands so we wouldn't get seperated and the group of us ran as fast as we could out of the park, with people landing random blows and kicks on us as we ran. When we got out of the park, and looked back, it was massive mayhem, and we watched as lots of people were being kicked and punched and having bottles smashed on their heads as they lay on the ground (glass bottles were the norm back then). Soon a police helicopter arrived and was dropping tear gas into the crowd. It was insane! If anyone else was there, I'd love to hear your side. I've avoided mosh pits ever since.
