I guess this could count as a has-been moment: I had a dream about needing to bootstrap a PDP-10. This is more complicated than you might at first think, because the PDP-10 has volatile microcode. To bootstrap it, you need to upload microcode from a PDP-11/40 (they were released around the same time, PDP-10 being a mainframe and PDP-11 being a mini). I was searching a huge university campus for the damn thing, but I couldn't find it. There were terminals everywhere, but this being a mainframe, you didn't normally need to care about where the thing was actually located. The whole time, in my mind I was going through what units I would likely find (CPU cabinet, memory modules, etc.) and mentally rehearsing the bootstrap procedure. I woke up before finding the damn thing.
