i've collected egm since about 1992. at about 2003-4, they started to lose appeal, but i still keep my subscription and i have them all in my closet. i started keeping them so i could always go back and look at the older systems and games. but, most modern game mags are shitty, with articles nobody cares about, and previews/hype for games that are gonna eventually be shit or never happen. i've actually been contemplating selling my egm collection (if anybody knows if scans exist, please tell).
today at fry's, i ran into a magazine called retro gamer that is awesome cover-to-cover, and is why i started collecting egm in the first place. it looks like it's a deep dive into older stuff (arcade and consoles) and was overwhelmingly nostalgic. instead of all the garbage and hype that most gaming mags are, it was a very scrutinized and rose colored-glass look at all the games and systems we love here.
definitely check it out. http://www.retrogamer.net/
i learned everything i know from KC
