It's something with windows then .. I would check your "invaders.zip" file for fitness. Uncompress the file content and recompress those contents as a .ZIP and replace your original copy and see if that improves the situation.
Be sure you are testing with command-line 0.143, using "mame invaders" in a command-line window to test it.
Otherwise, I have no idea what the problem might be.
