Anyone believe in being a "Trouble Magnet" ?
10/14/11 06:16 PM

The events of most of my life have me feeling like I get into situations that no other people get into...and I do so frequently.

For instance:

- Having to build my own garage due to my original garage being washed away in a flood...yet living nowhere near a creek, stream or river (and not having adequate flood insurance for that same reason).

- Having the worst winter/spring in recent memory during said garage construction. The day after Tyvek goes up, blizzard rips it off. Day after trenches are dug, water fills them. 98 blazing degrees during the 'cool' spring weekend chosen to do the roofing, snowing the following weekend for the remainder of the work. Etc, etc, etc.

- Having the starter go out on my truck less than a block from a repair shop, but due to the dirt parking spot I was in and heavy rain falling ~just~ as the starter failed...having to pay for a $100 tow for a one block trip that I could have pushed any other day.

- Being pulled over for no front license plate while already late for work due to the three main routes to work being torn up at exactly the same time. (Said license plate was ON the vehicle 2 days earlier, looks to be neatly stolen, screws were put back in the bracket.) Officer then wants to chat for 20 minutes about the truck, where I got the rims, life, etc. After finally getting to work realizing it was a day I reaaaallllyyy should have been there earlier. Had left 20 minutes earlier to counter traffic, didn't account for a 50 minute backup and 30 minutes of officer time.

- Having your wife back into another vehicle 5 minutes before a very important job interview (she got the job, so it wasn't all bad). Looking at the damage it's buff-able, and the one dent is probably fixable with some PDR tools. PDR tools and buffer, however, were just lost in a garage fire where all my tools were being stored during the building of my garage. This fire happened a week before the tools were to be moved back.

- Witnessing your dog at the back door with a skunk in his mouth, seconds before being covered in spray.

- Witnessing your dog at the back door with a possum in his mouth, covered in possum shit

- Witnessing your dog at the back door with a raccoon in his mouth, covered in raccoon blood.

- Witnessing your dog lay in the yard allowing squirrels to crawl all over and around him, wondering why he needs to only attack animals that make a mess.

- Having your refrigerator catch fire.

- Every single important instance where you need to be somewhere at an exact time is countered with an unavoidable reason why that won't happen..no matter how much you prepare.

- Moving back to Illinois from Colorado due to lack of job prospects, and having two jobs offered the day the moving truck arrives.

The list could go on and on, and gets stranger, but that should be enough for the spirit of the point. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. I have a wonderful wife, two great kids, very happy. I'm just pondering how crazy things get compared to others I know, and how they never seem to be dealing with any of the same odd circumstances as me. Bad Juju, Karma, cursed, dumb luck? What gives. Anyone else's life this 'interesting'?
