My sister bought a PT Cruiser for her daughter. The water pump started leaking. I'm not sure but if it really was the pump but she was told it needed replaced. About $1000 later the pump and belts (I think timing and serpentine) were replaced.
I drive a Chevy Cavalier. The water pump is not blocked by anything. An AC-Delco or Gates water pump is under $25. To replace it you just have to remove the serpentine belt and 4 bolts for the pulley and 4 bolts for the pump. Knock on wood, but it is still original @ 231000 miles. This has been a great car except the fucking dash cracking all to hell. I think GM must have used recycled-recycled plastic or something.
