Re: Justifying Purchases for Dummies

1986 was the first year I had any income at all.

I earned about $600 a month, and had free housing and food, with half my clothes also paid for. I had no car, so no car insurance, medical was 100% paid by the job, and all utilities were provided free with the housing. Any traveling I did, including getting to work, was also paid by the job. So I had about $550 per month for entertainment.

In 2011, I have about $1350 per month. Calculator says that's about a wash. Figure in all the same expenses that were free, and, well, I can afford the internet for entertainment, as long as I'm not downloading movies.

If I actually get any more money than that, it both reduces that amount and is taken entirely by a bank I owe some $15000 to. The other debts haven't gotten to that point, yet, but the hospital has started sending letters again.

$550 in 1986, $50 in 2011.
