Smartphone map app advice

I'm traveling to Europe next week, and I need to find a good app that I can view and SEARCH locations on the map (and in a perfect world, be able to get directions and such) without being connected to my provider (Verizon)
Free would be nice, but I'm sure for such an app a charge is involved.
