BBQ cleaning protocol

I was just wondering what you BBQ gurus do when you're done cooking. Do you wait until things cool down completely before you scrape down the grill grid? Do you soak in degreaser or whatever before washing the grid to a brilliant shine? What is the proper level of cleanliness before you cook on the grid again - sterile, dishwasher-clean etc.? What soap materials do you use?
