First off, I know you're a troll, but I would like to instate a point for the others, because sometimes you have to underline the obvious:
Some people humorously believes that reverse engineering is some kind of Black Magic. It's NOT, it requires skill, effort and free time from an individual or a group, in this exact order. Additionally, you don't get a penny to work for MAME/MESS, and that isn't that great in order to get the interest of the others. Speaking in personal terms, I'm the current lead coordinator but I'm poor, unemployed and basically a commoner apart from a single digit fanbase. I can't work there 24/7, it might sound great for MAME and the aforementioned 9- people but then my social life would shout bad things at me. Mind you, I don't even talk about RE to most of my friends, almost all of them doesn't even have the slightest clue about what I really do, that's because we (as MAME programmers) are basically a niche group and I rather prefer to talk about anything but work on the social field (plus you don't really need to say how much smart you are in order to impress a lady but you actually have to prove it via other means, but that's another story ...).
More to the point, improving old drivers can actually be a lot more satisfying rather than play with yet another stupidly-made-under-crack-cocaine Italian gambler (not that there are too many dumped out there anyway). That might be nice also if there's any documentation and/or the possibility to do any kind of HW test on a real PCB, for example people claimed to me that there's a default palette for Ghouls 'n Goblins / Makaimura POST* screens ... but how I'm supposed to do that without even a simple tangible decent quality video proof of that phenomenon? Guess that Black Magic should do the trick, yeah ...
