I don't keep archives of my Steam downloads - too big - but I do keep my GOG purchases (and all the extra materials) in a safe place. I look forward to No One Lives Forever 1 & 2 appearing on GOG so I can clear those originals off my shelf.
It seems I've stopped buying from GOG simply due to my desire for greater polish. But I still have around two dozen titles from there which need attention.
As for Steam requiring constant online connection, well, I find I simply don't want to use my computer without an active Net link anyway.
