But for me, it was dispelling the need for love, and the need (or desire) to be 'in love'. Love filled me from within myself, and through my child-like wonder of the cosmos.
This enabled me to embody love, relish it, without an 'external' audience to receive or even witness it. It also absolved me of the function of empathy, while retaining that of sympathy. Dig it.
Consider it high comedy....sincere tragedy....whatever...don't take it personally.
