For me it leaves a bad taste in the mouth if it's a commercial for a product but using songs for a movie soundtrack is different. It's needed. Not everybody can pay John Williams or Danny Elfman or whoever. Just listen to all the completely awful songs in 80's and 90's movies where they paid an "artist" to write songs for the soundtrack. It totally fucks them up. I don't really see it as a sellout move to license a song for a film. That's about it though. Selling anything else and it's pretty much a sellout move. A movie is just more art. Look at it that way.
