How to reduce size of in-game configuration menu?

I updated to MAME 0.143 to try HLSL. How do I reduce the size of the in-game configuration menu (Tab key)? In particular, the Slider Controls menu covers almost the entire screen, making it difficult to see what I'm adjusting.

I'm running WinXP, GeForce 9600GT, and 2560x1600 display.
