Accelerator and Brakes with Pots are a must for better playing. I don't know about you but to play a driving game without near-precision control is most likely going to make you fail.
Regarding gear shifts, if you got a 4 speed one, you can map say 1&3 to Hi and low. rec m if I'm wrong devs, but I can't recall many drivers requiring a clutch at all, so it's pointless to buy a pedal for that.
Also, what are you using for I/O? Hacked USB PC wheel? A-Pac? My recomendation is an A-Pac, much easier. They can be bought from Ultimarc.
