Spot on exactly what I do. Most of them come out to be about the same % wise that you get back. It is just a matter of which 'prize' you want. That reminds me time to get 5x100 dollar best buy cards Got legos last time for a gift.
Then combine it with other stores rewards programs. Works out pretty good.
The only downside is plastic is easy to swipe and gives a mental disconnect on the cost. Which is what gets many people into debt in the first place. Pretty much if you cant pay for it do not swipe it. You will never catch up. Those cards are stacked in such a way to insure it.
There are a lot of smart MBA's out there who like to separate you from your money.
