When awake I sometimes do double takes at clocks, but it could be anything you're able to read -such as text. You look at it once, make sure you know what it reads, look away, then look at it again to see if it's still the same.
Also, when dreaming, words can change in signs or books as you're looking at them, or letters will look strange.
One time I was lucid I was looking at something and I could see it changing... The best way I can describe it is - it's like it was fluttering/flickering.
