I have three C2D "Wolfdale" chips of varying retail speeds. Overclocked, one is stable at 3.4, one is stable at 3.5, and the last is stable at 3.6.
All of them can easily do 3.2 (equal to the fastest retail Wolfdale).
The trick, in my opinion, is to stick with the cheaper dual core Wolfdale models.
