Oh man, I figured out what brixian is, sort of. In 1988, Taito released puzznic (both adult and 'family' versions) for arcades. In 1991, Michael Riedel (Radiesel) made an unlicensed clone in DOS of puzznic called 'brix', which was later (1992) bought up/published by Epic Megagames (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brix_%28video_game%29) and had some really awesome opl2 music added (play it in dosbox!) BriXian (1993) seems to be a mix of assets of both brix and puzznic ported back from PC to arcade. In BriXian, the black background behind the level counter, retry counter and timer, as well as pairs remaining area comes from brix (brix 1.0, the pre-epic version); puzznic did not have that at all (the better to see the naked chicks on those romsets which have them)
