MAMEWorld Forums - The Loony Bin - Working Handheld Torch mod

Sadly, Handheld Torch mod stopped updating at 1.3, but it's code HAS been updated as a part of Adventure Mod... so this is merely the handheld torch part of the code stripped out of the adventure mod for use with vanilla minecraft. I'll see if I can make this work on the server, but best I can tell it's going to remain client side, but no worries, you'll still be compatible with all other non-conflicting servers.

Instructions:

1. Before you begin: make a back-up!

2. Ensure your minecraft is up-to-date. Easiest is to delete minecraft's "bin" folder, so it will download the most recent of everything. Just because you can play online doesn't mean your 100% up-to-date. Mine wasn't.

3. Find and unpack your minecraft.jar, which will create a folder called "minecraft". Rename that folder to "minecraft.jar" so the game will load that folder as if it was a .jar (unless you can repack it back up into a .jar, either will work fine), and also so you don't confuse it with the real minecraft folder (which contains the minecraft.jar, among other things).

4. Unpack the attached archive.zip

5. Put everything from the "put_this_into_minecraft_jar" folder into minecraft.jar folder.

6. Put everything from the "put_this_into_minecraft_folder" folder into minecraft folder. This is the folder that contains minecraft.jar, among other things.

7. Delete META_INF folder.

8. Boldly go into that good night. Be warned, the dark is still just as dangerous. Being able to see in a small radius around your character as you carry a torch doesn't change that fact, which is why I think this mod is not so much a cheat as an over-looked feature the game should have included.
