Okay, if you KNOW that I know much more than you WHY do you ignore my advice?!

Warning: Rant mode. Of course I'd wager that many of you can relate.

Okay, we've had ridiculous amounts of rainfall lately and it is causing flooding. Long story short, my sister took an unexpected swim yesterday while assessing her property. After getting back on solid ground she realized that her Android phone was in her pocket. She screamed "OH SHIT!" and promptly ripped the battery out of it. An excellent reaction.

When she got back to the house she gave me a call. I grabbed my tools and desiccant bag collection and drove over. I tried to strip down the phone (note to self, your tiny Torx screwdrivers are no longer tiny enough, go shopping) and dried it out as well as I could. I then wrapped it in the desiccant bags, put it in a baggie and told her in a very clear voice while maintaining eye contact, "There's a VERY good chance that it will be okay. There's no way to know yet, we're going to have to be patient. It needs to stay in that bag for at LEAST two or three days. I know you want to try it out but the WORST thing you could do right now is put the battery back in. I'll come by this weekend and see what I can do. Just leave it alone until then, okay? Okay."

Today I get a text asking me to come by her house. Dread kicks in. Oh yeah, after work it's tearful confession time. "OMG, I KNOW that you said to leave it alone but I just wanted to check to see if I had any messages so I put the battery in it and the screen was black but it came on okay even though the screen wasn't working and I was able to unlock it and make a few calls using the voice command thingy and it played my songs okay but then it stopped working and I couldn't get it to work anymore so now I'm afraid I broke it it's only a couple of months old and Verizon said they wouldn't be able to replace it and I should just get a new phone and I KNOW you said not to touch it but I thought it had been in there long enough and I'm SO sorry would you please just look at it please????!?"

I just lowered my head and closed my eyes until all of the red went away and I was reasonably sure that I could speak without channeling Sam Kinison. I said, "It's okay. If you killed it, you killed it. That can't be helped now. Let's just put it back in the bag for a couple of days and hope for the best, okay?"

She relaxed a bit and said, "Okay. And I mean it, I am SO sorry..." I waved it off. Then she walked into the next room, unplugged the phone from the charger and brought it to me.
