Being staked to the ground (something is holding you down, keeping you from progressing), you're using your voice, your ability to communicate. A hawk (something that can soar, fly, and has freedom) is taking your voice...?

Or perhaps taking your strongest aspect, ability, or quality.

Things to ask yourself (if you feel they would apply): Are you the main or a secondary character in this book?
What would (or what do you imagine) the plot of this book be?
...Investigate the stakes. Who put them there? What are they made of?...
Even the ground you were on. Was the ground hurt to have been impaled with stakes? Or the hawk... Was it hungry, or did it need to feed the youngins?

How do you know it wasn't trying to stop you from saying something that would've had a bad consequence?
