I remember that... Didn't notice when (or if -actually) it went away.
I think it should be a separate (text) file - like the cheat.dat(?) and enabled in the mame.ini for the tab menu. That way whoever wants it can have access to it, and whoever doesn't.... won't need to deal with it.
That also reminds me of the Move.dat(?) haha... Where it lists moves for fighting games etc. But Mamedev didn't like that dat.
