You do seem to have several craters in your front yard. No, only lava and burning logs/nether stone can spread fire. My walls are now log, so just as threatened.
The pics posted by Gat are from a world stored on the machine running the MC server software. That's local to him. Single player stuff is all local storage, at least for the downloaded game.
Player skins are stored on the minecraft.net servers, which is why they're missing lately. Now that they've almost moved to amazon, already suffering outages, they're going to move again, to rackspace, I think it was.
