actually, I feel the right sensation only with PS1/PS2 dual shock (which I keep using with a USB adapter, with both MAME and MESS).
I never liked too much NES, Genesis or n64 controllers... they all became uncomfortable in long game sessions. and I have used the SNES one as well, when I bought a used SNES 5 years ago, but I still prefer the dual shock.
