2) you don't need an external 3rd party dat, Profiler->Create lets you import the data directly from your mame binary (which is 0.140)
3) now the question is: Do you really want to do a rebuild??? Normally people want to scan their collection. Rebuilder is only used when converting some folder with sets for a different loaded datfile (e.g. MAME to KAWAKS conversion), or if you want to add files to your existing collection.
The general quick rebuild guide:
- load a dat in profiler (or use the create option as mentioned above)
- go to the rebuilder, select a destination folder and drag'n drop the set you want to rebuild into the window...that's it.

- load a dat in profiler (or use the create option as mentioned above)
- Settings, setup your romfolder(s)
- scanner, hit new scan (optionally enable all fix options)...that's it.
